Twist open
Quarter-turn the nose cone. The jaws release and the 2.0mm core floats.
One quarter-turn opens the collet. One slide of the brass ring sets your lead — as long or as short as the line demands. One turn back locks it. No clickers, no levers, no broken tips in your pocket.

Nothing inside needs batteries or springs. The ring rides an external groove; its magnet lifts and lowers the internal jaws that grip the lead.

Glide the ring: lead up for shading, down for detail. Watch the exposure, stop when it's right.
Clock the cone shut. Your setting holds through the whole sketch — retract flush to pocket it.
Type II anodizing means the color is the metal surface itself — it won't chip in a pencil case full of keys.

Their heritage is real — knurled brass, precise collets. Their lead advance is still a clicker. The magnetic ring gives continuous adjustment neither does, at a lower price and with a pocket-safe retract.
A reviewer's exact words: the UK boutique sells "the same pencil" for double, claiming the mechanism as original. This is the mechanism's origin story — aluminum body, four finishes, gift box, half the ticket.
Never needs a point, never loses 6 mm to a broken tip, never leaves shavings on the board — but keeps the familiar side-shading and constant-diameter lead of a real pencil.
Yes — the sleeve takes every standard 2.0mm refill: graphite (HB, 2B, 4B…), colored, even watersoluble. The included 2B is a soft sketching grade; switch to HB or 2H if you draft fine technical lines or find 2B dulls too fast for shading with the side.
Twist the nose open, drop a 2.0mm core into the exposed collet, slide the ring down to seat it, twist shut. Takes about ten seconds. When the stub in the sleeve gets short, push the next lead from the tail before it falls out of reach.
Like any gripping mechanism, the jaws can pick up graphite dust and slip. That's why the kit ships with a cleaning pin: one pass through the sleeve every few months restores full grip. Avoid slamming the nose on desks and it stays tight for years.
It is a polished surface, and with warm hands a firm "death grip" can slide. Drafters' fix: hold it like a pen, not a dagger, or add a thin rubber grip sleeve. The spare magnetic rings also give your index finger a textured place to rest.
It's a drawing and marking tool first. The 2.0mm core lays a bold, smudge-able line — superb for sketches, job-site marks and shading; less ideal for tiny boxes on a form. Keep a 0.5mm clicker for that.
A reviewer favorite question: yes, the nose consumes some stroke length. Push the stub forward from the tail with the next refill as it approaches the jaws and you get the full stick — same trick as any lead holder.
It genuinely levitates over the groove — spin it, slide it, float it during phone calls. It is also a working part, so we suggest the ring's magnet as much as its entertainment value.
